Gyotaku (ghee-o-tah-ku) - Japanese "fish rubbing"
About 100 years ago in Japan, Fishermen created Gyotaku prints to record their prized catches. Gyotaku is created by pressing rice paper onto a fish covered with ink or paint.
I started in 1993 with a rock fish I had caught near where I had lived. I had seen the framed prints in restaurants when I was younger and decided to give it a go. Through a lot of trial and error I have gotten to the stage where I think the finished prints are worthy of framing and offering them for sale. Each print is an original and one-of-a-kind. I have caught 98% of the fish that I use for printing ,so if you have a special fish or design that you want, email me and I will be happy to go catch and print the fish for you.
All reptiles that have been printed were found dead as road kill. After printing all were buried near where I had found them and all fish were humanely dispatched and fish that were edible were not wasted. All prints are sold unframed and shipped rolled up in a mailing tube. Prices do not include shipping costs.
